After almost five years of blocking, the video game Fortnite has returned to the App Store in the United States.
Reuters writes about it.
Epic Games, the company that owns the project, resumed access to the game after putting judicial pressure on Apple, which was accused of abusing its monopoly position.
In April 2024, the court found that Apple had violated a previous ruling requiring the admission of third-party payment services to the App Store. The company may be held criminally liable for failing to comply with the court order.
Fortnite, which had more than 116 million users on iOS before the 2020 blockade, has previously returned to Android and European platforms through the Epic Games Store and AltStore.
Analysts believe that this precedent could change the economics of the App Store – apps like Spotify or Netflix could get more flexibility in monetization without paying commissions to Apple.
